RE: Best place to purchase Disney Park hopper passes

I second MouseSavers.com They list the places to get the cheapest tickets - if varies per length. For the longer stay tickets, it is usually UndercoverTourist.com. Have fun, David

RE: Discount Code for Fort Wilderness

There is an Annual Passholder rate of $42 (checking in after 8/3), and perhaps the same for Florida residences, but I don't think there are any general public codes. The post card your friend got would have had a pin-number linked to their name - you could not have used their code. Value season starts 8/3 with rates around $47. Good luck, David

RE: Anyone else not an MPG-checker?

I don't know what I get city/hwy, but I know it is a lot of $$$$$. I do know, and care, that I get between 8 - 10 mpg towing - so I can plan how many fuel stops I will have. DD(14) has a dream of eating at every Cracker Barrel in the USA. She is at about 10 of 577 so far! I am more than happy to go on as many trips as possible to help her reach her dream :) So, when possible, I plan fuel stops around the CB's. David

RE: tt, hotel or base for Disney trip

Fort Wilderness is a destination all by itself. We typically have more FW days than park days and have a big-time!!! If you can swing it, staying at FW is worth $$$ rather than driving in. I am constantly planning a trip to somewhere - only wish I got to go on them all :) ...bugs DW :( Got tired of redoing the calculations for each possible trip and made an Excel spreadsheet where I can just input the variables and compare the costs of camping or driving and staying in a hotel. I have been surprised that even with the cost of gas, if you stay more than 2 days camping was always cheaper. Good luck, David

RE: Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina - Good Sites?

There is Hunting Island State Park near Beaufort and Huntington Beach State Park near Myrtle Beach. Both are very nice, but different. Probably more larger spots in Huntington Beach SP. Good luck,

RE: 2007 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L, question.....

My owner's manual lists 34 gallons also, but that is not right. I'm pretty sure the short bed trucks have a 29 gallon tank. If the "light" has been on awhile, I can get a little over 25 gallons in it.

RE: Orlando Campground suggestions

Will you be going to Disney while you are there? If so, you need to consider the "extras" that come with staying at Fort Wilderness. Parking at Disney is $10/day (maybe more by next year). If you are staying on property, you park free or can take Disney transpertation, and get in the parks early and get to stay later (certain parks on certain days). Fort Wilderness is a destination all by itself IMHO. Good Luck, David

RE: Oh the frustration.

It gets harder and harder. DD(14) says she would rather stay home and "hang with her friends". So far, she'll go and ends up having fun once we are there, but it is getting iffy. We did make it to Disney for some of Spring Break, but now I can't get another open weekend. Trying to go to Carowinds for the weekend - to start using our season passes.... They, DW, DD(12) and DD(14), have had some church activity or school band something every weekend and are "booked" until the end of May. All I can do is be ready in case something opens up. Like others have said, they will be grown and gone TOO SOON. Need to enjoy them now rather it's camping or whatever.... Good luck, David

RE: Selling or trading my travel trailer !

Sold our TT last year on Craigslist. May have taken two weeks and got NADA "High Retail". I am normally a trade-in person, but it was simple. You will alway get more selling yourself. Good luck, David

RE: Lets think about It!

I HATE high fuel prices, but..... Just took a 4-night trip to Disney - stayed at Fort Wilderness. It is about 400 miles each way. Total gas bill was less than the site. IF gas was $1.00 less per gallon, I would have saved about $50 each way. I spent that at Cracker Barrel both down and back. DD(14) loves CB and it is worth $50 to see her giddy!!!! (Can you say Angry Adolescent?) I spent almost an hour online before the trip researching gas prices. Found a county where gas was $0.10/gal cheaper. It was going to be out of my normal "fuel window". Saving $2.00 for that one fill up (20 dimes are still $2.00) would mean stopping again. DW loves getting junk food in the store while I fill up. Saving $2.00 in gas would have cost me $5.00 in drinks, gum and candy... If I can make a 750 mile trip into 2 days instead of 3, I would probably save the extra gas money... I HATE the higher fuel costs, but I'm still going. In the total cost, even $1.00 per gallon extra is not as bad as it sounds... Enjoy, David

RE: Nasty Surprise at Storage Lot Entrance

We had similar at the place where we used to store our TT. It was one long building of units with large open boat/RV areas on each side. There were nails all along the pavement on one side of the building. Luckily, to reach my spot, I came in the other side and parked near the end of the building. Told managment - who did nothing. The nails were there for weeks. They were about to shut down for remodeling (turned the whole place into enclosed units). Never could decide if the nails were thrown out on purpose. Seemed an odd spot for kids to "be mean" - the middle of the road would have caused more damage.

RE: Any pics how you mount your bikes to a Keystone bike rack?

4 RV N, Please try and get the picture to post. I too am looking for a better way to haul my bikes. Thanks, David

RE: Any pics how you mount your bikes to a Keystone bike rack?

We also have the Cougar with the sliding rack. Last year I could get all 4 bikes on it. I would loosen and turn the handle bars of the first bike so they did not hit the back of the camper, alternate which way the other bikes faced and pull them up tight to the support pole. We just got a couple of new "beach cruiser" bikes and they won't fit that way. Since it was new, I put DW's bike in the camper, but that will not work once we start going to the beach and it get dirty. I've been working on a sketch (many sketches) of a hanging rack to put on the sliding rack. The bikes would hang by thier front wheels and be tied down such they did not bang into each other. I saw one on the back of a camper in Myrtle Beach, but they were leaving and I could not get my camera out fast enough. David

RE: if you have an outdoor shower....

We usually camp at state parks along the ocean, so the sites are mostly sand/dirt. By the time you've showered off on one side of the camper and walked back around, your feet were nasty. DW bought several of the interlocking tiles that would be used in a garage (fatigue mats) and I make a path out of them from the shower area around to the rug. They are 36"x36" ,heavy rubber, with holes through them. She got them at Lowes. We were at Edisto State Park last summer and "everybody" had one of those shower enclosures - it is over a mile down the highway to the dump station. I have one on my list :) Good luck, David

RE: Chev-Trailer Brake -Jumper Harness- Under Dash???

The 2007 new body style does not have a plug or pigtail. There is a bundle of wires under the dash, below the steering wheel. You also need to put in a fuse and hook up two wires under the hood. The hardest part was finding the nuts to hook the wires onto the studs. I found several articles online about it and the owners manual actually had pretty good instructions. Not as bad as it sounds - took 15 minutes (not counting trip to Wal-Mart for a fuse and digging around in my toolbox for nuts). Good luck, David

RE: Whats a good price for a used 5th Wheel Hitch

Last year I paid $100 for the same hitch (Reese/2001/16k/4-wp). It was on Ebay and his wife wanted it out of the garage TODAY :) Drove 3 hours, each way, to pick it up. A new rail kit was another $100 and, after MUCH searching, the pins to attach the hitch to the rails were another $30 or $40. The others I had looked at were in the $200 - $300 range. It is the shipping that makes it hard to buy/sell a used hitch, unless it is local. Good luck, David

RE: OUTSIDE LIGHTING

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x263/davidhorne/IMG_0001-1.jpg Is this the kind of light you're talking about? Maybe not the Mickey head... It is just a bag-o-pieces and parts from Lowes or H-D. PVC pipe, plastic globes, a light kit and some wire. Good luck, David

RE: Extension ladder ????

If you're talking about a telescoping ladder, I use one at work and it works real well. It flexes a bit, but I'm about 220 lbs. I think we gave a little over $200 for them a couple of years ago. David

RE: Lakeshore rv wholesalers

I bought from Lakeshore just about a year ago. Even delivered to South Carolina, they were lots $$$ cheaper than my local dealer. First number out of his mouth was his low price. Did not have to negotiate - I hate to negotiate.... Had a couple of issues (cracked tire, warped dinette top, microwave quit), but they shipped out replacements right away. Only complaints would have been from my UPS guy :) Would buy from them again. Good luck, David
